Poor Blossom
Panchatantra
In Indra’s bright celestial garden lived a green parrot named Blossom. He was beautiful, clever and loved by everyone in the court.
One day Yama, the dignified guardian of life’s endings, came to visit. Blossom grew frightened and fluttered away.
“Why are you afraid?” asked Indra.
“Yama reminds every creature that life does not last forever,” Blossom replied.
The court cared deeply for the little bird. They asked Yama to promise that Blossom would always remain with them.
Yama answered gently, “I do not choose the hour. Time carries every life along its path.”
So they went to Time. Time listened and said, “I measure every season, but I do not decide each creature’s path alone.”
At last the court understood: even the greatest beings could not keep every flower blooming or every bird beside them forever.
Indra returned Blossom to the garden. Instead of spending the day in fear, they listened to his songs, offered him sweet fruit and treasured his company.
When Blossom’s natural time eventually came, the garden grew quiet. Yet his songs remained in everyone’s memory, just as the fragrance of a flower remains after its petals fall.
The court learned that love is not made smaller because time moves forward. Love teaches us to value the moment we have.
