Gargacharya's Kheer and Krishna's Playful Secret

When the family priest Gargacharya came to Gokul for Krishna's naming ceremony, Yashoda asked him to prepare sweet kheer as an offering. The sage cooked it lovingly and closed his eyes to invite Narayana to accept it.

At once, little Krishna crept over and began eating from the bowl. Gargacharya opened his eyes in surprise. Yashoda apologized and carried the mischievous child away.

The sage prepared fresh kheer and again sat in prayer. Once more Krishna appeared and tasted it. Gargacharya wondered how the little boy kept reaching the offering.

On the third attempt, the sage prayed with all his heart, “O Narayana, please come and accept this kheer yourself.” Krishna came from behind him and said, “Baba, when you call me with so much love, how can I stay away?”

Gargacharya understood that the playful child in Nanda's courtyard was Narayana himself. With joyful tears he bowed, realizing that Krishna had not stolen the offering at all—he had answered a loving invitation.
