The Two Friends and the Bear
Once, two friends named Arjun and Ravi set out on a journey through a great forest. Before entering the trees, they promised, “Whatever happens, we will help each other.”

They walked along a narrow path, sharing food and stories. Sunlight filtered through the leaves, and birds called from the branches. The friends felt brave because they were together.
Then a large bear stepped onto the path ahead of them.
Arjun forgot his promise. Without warning Ravi, he grabbed a low branch and quickly climbed a tree. Ravi could not climb and was left alone below.

Ravi's heart pounded, but he forced himself to think. He remembered an old tale saying that a bear might leave someone who seemed lifeless. He lay flat on the ground, closed his eyes, held his breath, and stayed as still as he could.
The bear came near and sniffed cautiously around Ravi's head and shoulders. Ravi did not move. After a few quiet moments, the bear decided he was no danger and walked back into the forest.

When the bear was far away, Arjun climbed down. Trying to hide his embarrassment, he asked with a nervous smile, “What did the bear whisper in your ear?”
Ravi stood up and brushed the leaves from his clothes.
“The bear gave me useful advice,” he replied. “It told me never to trust a friend who leaves me alone when danger comes.”
Arjun lowered his head. He remembered their promise and felt ashamed.
“You are right,” he said. “I thought only of myself. I am sorry.”

Ravi accepted the apology, but both friends understood that friendship needed more than kind words. It required courage, loyalty, and action when help was truly needed.
They continued their journey more thoughtfully than before. From that day onward, they remembered what the forest had taught them: a true friend does not disappear when the path becomes difficult.

“A true friend stands by you in times of need.”
