The Story of Durga: The Mother Who Protected the Universe
Long ago, there lived a powerful and scary demon named Mahishasura. He was so strong that he had defeated all the kings on Earth and even the gods in Heaven! The gods, including mighty Indra, were very worried. They had nowhere left to turn.
"We must combine our powers," they said. So, all the gods (Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva) focused their divine energy together.
1. The Birth of a Warrior
From this swirling, golden light, a beautiful and powerful goddess emerged. This was Durga. She was not just beautiful; she was fierce and brave. The gods were so happy to see her that they each gave her a special weapon.
Lord Shiva gave her his Trishul (trident), Lord Vishnu gave her a Chakra (discus), and other gods gave her a sword, a bow, a bell, and a protective shield. They also gave her a magnificent lion to ride as her mount. She was fully prepared for the battle.
2. The Great Battle
Riding her lion, Goddess Durga traveled to the foot of a great mountain where the demon lived. Her presence shook the earth! When Mahishasura saw her, he just laughed. "Who is this woman?" he thought.
But the laughter stopped quickly. Durga’s lion roared, and she charged into battle. The sky grew dark as the fight began. Mahishasura was tricky; he kept changing his shape. First, he was a giant buffalo, then an elephant, and then a fierce warrior.
But no matter what shape he took, Goddess Durga was ready. With her many arms, she blocked his attacks and used her divine weapons. The battle lasted for nine whole days and nights.
On the tenth day, as the demon charged at her, Goddess Durga leaped from her lion. She pinned him to the ground and raised her mighty trident.

3. Good Prevails
With a mighty thrust, Goddess Durga defeated the demon. The world was saved! The gods cheered, and flowers rained down from the heavens.
To this day, we celebrate this victory during the festival of Navratri and Durga Puja. We celebrate the strength of good over evil, and courage over fear. Goddess Durga is honoured as the Divine Mother who protects us all.

“Always choose good over bad. Be brave when doing the right thing. Help and protect others. Never be proud or bully anyone. Work together with friends and family. Believe in yourself. Message: "Goodness, courage, and kindness are the greatest superpowers."”
