The Naughty Little Hanuman

·2 min read

After the gods blessed baby Hanuman with wonderful powers, something funny happened — he became the naughtiest little monkey in the whole forest!

He could fly, so he zoomed over the ashrams of the sages. He could change his size, so he became tiny and hid inside their water pots. He was strong, so he playfully lifted their huts and put them down in the wrong places!

"Where is my prayer mat?" one sage would cry — Hanuman had hung it on top of a tall tree. "Who tied my beard to my walking stick?" another would gasp — while a little giggle came from behind the bushes.

The sages loved little Hanuman, but the mischief would not stop. Prayers were disturbed. Pots were broken. Fruit offerings vanished into a small, fast, furry blur.

Finally, the wise sages sat together. "This child has powers greater than the mountains, but the sense of a little baby. Until he learns, this is not safe — for him or anyone."

So they gave him a gentle curse: "Little one, you will forget your great powers. You will remember them only when someone reminds you at the right time."

And just like that, Hanuman became an ordinary little monkey. He no longer flew or lifted mountains. He played, learned, and grew humble and kind.

But the curse carried a secret gift. Many, many years later, when a great hero named Rama needed help, and a mighty ocean stood in the way, an old bear named Jambavan would say: "Hanuman, have you forgotten who you are? You are the son of the wind! You can leap across this ocean!"

And on that day, all his powers would come rushing back — ready, this time, to be used not for pranks, but for something truly great.

The moral of the tale

Great gifts come with great responsibility. Powers used only for mischief are taken away — but humility and patience prepare us for the moment our gifts are truly needed.
